President Bola Tinubu has reversed the recent appointments made in the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), reinstating Salihu Abdullahi Dembos as the Director-General and Ayo Adewuyi as the Executive Director of News. This decision was announced by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in a statement.
The reversal of appointments sets aside the previously announced appointments of a new Director-General, Executive Director of News, Executive Director of Marketing, and Managing Director of NTA Enterprises. Dembos, who was appointed DG in October 2023, will return to complete his three-year tenure. Adewuyi, appointed as Executive Director of News in 2024, will also resume his role and complete his tenure, which ends in 2027.
Earlier, the president had approved a new management team for NTA on August 20, appointing Rotimi Pedro as Director-General, Stella Din as Executive Director of News, Karimah Bello as Executive Director of Marketing, and Sophia Mohammed as Managing Director of NTA Enterprises Limited. However, this decision was short-lived, as Tinubu has now opted to reinstate the original appointees.
This move marks another instance of the Tinubu administration reversing its own appointment decisions. In August, the president reversed his decision regarding Muheeba Dankaka’s reappointment as Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC). The reinstatement of Dembos and Adewuyi signals Tinubu’s preference for continuity in the management of the national broadcaster.
The decision is expected to bring stability to the NTA, allowing Dembos and Adewuyi to continue their work in shaping the direction of the organization. With Dembos set to complete his tenure and Adewuyi nearing the end of his term, the NTA can look forward to a period of continuity and consistency under their leadership.
