Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has pledged to work with stakeholders to ensure the All Progressives Congress (APC) gets 99% of the votes in the state during the 2027 general elections. This promise was made after he defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. Diri cited the federal government’s support and projects in Bayelsa as reasons for his defection, emphasizing the need for the state’s development. He thanked the APC for welcoming him and expressed optimism about the party’s prospects in the state.
The governor’s defection is seen as a significant blow to the PDP, with analysts describing it as a strategic move to align with the federal government. The APC has been gaining momentum in the South-South region, and Diri’s defection could further solidify the party’s hold on the region. Some notable figures who attended Diri’s welcome ceremony include Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other APC governors.
