The family of an Ogun State businesswoman, Olayinka Oremade, has appealed to security agencies and the government to intensify efforts to secure her release after she was reportedly abducted by gunmen.
Oremade was allegedly kidnapped alongside one of her staff members on Friday, August 14, 2026, in the Alapako/Oyebola area of Ogun State while returning from a farm.
According to her son, Ilerioluwa Oremade, his mother had visited the farm to create content for her business when their vehicle was reportedly intercepted by armed men on their way back.
He said the attackers allegedly surrounded the vehicle, forcing the occupants to abandon it and attempt to escape. While two members of the staff reportedly managed to flee, Oremade and another staff member were allegedly taken into captivity.
The family subsequently reported the incident to the police and sought assistance from security personnel in the area. The victim’s abandoned vehicle was reportedly later recovered.
According to the family, the alleged kidnappers contacted them several days after the incident and initially demanded a ransom of ₦200 million.
After negotiations with the family, the demand was reportedly reduced to ₦100 million. The family, however, said it remained unable to raise the amount.
Ilerioluwa said the family was able to speak with his mother during one of the calls from the alleged abductors. He added that hunters in the area had also been involved in efforts to locate the victims.
The development has left the victim’s family deeply concerned, with relatives appealing for urgent intervention to ensure the safe return of Oremade and the other abducted woman.
The family has also called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Ogun State Government to strengthen efforts to locate the victims and apprehend those responsible for the alleged abduction.
As of the latest report, the Ogun State Police Command had yet to publicly provide an update on the reported abduction or confirm the current status of the rescue operation.
The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of residents and business owners operating in rural areas of Ogun State, particularly those who regularly travel between farms and surrounding communities.
