The Lagos State Police Command has presented cheques totaling ₦89.2 million to 157 families and next-of-kin of police officers who died while serving under the command.
The cheques, valued at ₦89,201,523.07, were presented by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Fatai Tijani, at the command headquarters in Ikeja.
The payment represents entitlements under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force and is intended to provide financial support to families left behind by officers who lost their lives in the course of service.
Tijani said the financial assistance could not replace the lives of the deceased officers but demonstrated the commitment of the police authorities to recognising their sacrifices and supporting their families.
He sympathised with the beneficiaries and urged them to use the funds judiciously, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants of the deceased officers.
The commissioner also assured serving personnel that the welfare of police officers and their families remained a priority, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to facilitating the prompt processing of legitimate claims due to beneficiaries of deceased personnel.
He further expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his intervention and continued support for the families of fallen officers.
The presentation, according to the command, underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s efforts to provide welfare support to families affected by the loss of personnel who served the country.
