Businessman and President of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to support about two million vulnerable women across Nigeria to participate in the ownership of shares in Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited.
Dangote disclosed the initiative in New York while responding to a question on how government and private-sector partnerships could support communities affected by conflict and economic hardship.
He said the Aliko Dangote Foundation would work with state governments to enable vulnerable women, particularly widows and other women affected by conflict, to acquire shares in the refinery through its Initial Public Offering (IPO).
According to him, the initiative is designed to give beneficiaries an opportunity to own a stake in the refinery while building a financial asset that could provide value over the long term.
Dangote explained that the foundation would support the purchase of shares by eligible women and also provide additional shares to beneficiaries as part of the initiative.
He said the programme was targeting approximately two million women across the country.
The initiative forms part of efforts surrounding the refinery’s “People’s IPO”, which is aimed at expanding public participation in the ownership of the multi-billion-dollar facility.
The Dangote Refinery IPO comprises 4.1 billion ordinary shares offered at ₦525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares. The offer opened on September 14, 2026, and is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.
The proposed programme would give vulnerable women an opportunity to participate in the capital market and become shareholders in one of Nigeria’s major industrial projects.
It also highlights the role of private-sector philanthropy in promoting financial inclusion and creating opportunities for women and other vulnerable groups to build long-term financial assets.
