The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the globe, particularly motorists and residents of Lagos State, on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the management and entire workforce of LASTMA, Bakare-Oki described Eid-el-Kabir as a significant period of spiritual reflection, sacrifice, steadfast faith, tolerance, and complete submission to the will of Almighty Allah.
He encouraged Muslim faithful to continue to uphold the enduring virtues of peace, compassion, selflessness, discipline, and harmonious coexistence, which the sacred festival symbolises.
The LASTMA General Manager further appealed to motorists, commercial transport operators, and all categories of road users to exercise maximum caution, vigilance, and civic responsibility before, during, and after the festive period to safeguard lives and property.
Bakare-Oki specifically warned against reckless driving, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, route violations, and other traffic offences capable of causing avoidable accidents and fatalities on the roads.
He also strongly advised drivers to refrain entirely from driving under the influence of alcohol, narcotic substances, or any intoxicating agents that could impair judgment, coordination, and alertness while operating vehicles on public roads.
According to him, “strict adherence to government-approved speed limits, traffic regulations, and established road safety measures remains crucial to ensuring a peaceful, safe, and hitch-free Eid-el-Kabir celebration across Lagos State.”
Bakare-Oki reiterated that LASTMA officers would be strategically deployed across major highways, critical traffic corridors, and key intersections within the State to ensure free flow of traffic, strengthen traffic management operations, and provide prompt emergency response services where necessary throughout the celebration period.
He further appealed to residents and road users to cooperate fully with traffic management officials and other security agencies by complying with all traffic laws and safety directives instituted for public order and collective security.
The General Manager subsequently wished all Muslim faithful a peaceful, joyful, and spiritually rewarding Eid-el-Kabir celebration, while praying for sustained peace, unity, prosperity, and socioeconomic development in Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
