The recognition further cements Interswitch’s position as a leading force in Africa’s digital payments ecosystem, highlighting its continued commitment to delivering resilient payment infrastructure, innovative financial technology solutions, and trusted digital commerce services across the continent. It also places the company among a select group of African fintech firms acknowledged globally for shaping the future of financial services.
The annual ranking, compiled by CNBC in collaboration with global market research firm Statista, identifies 500 of the world’s leading fintech companies across nine market segments. The selection followed a rigorous evaluation of more than 3,500 eligible companies worldwide, with assessments based on independent research, industry data, market performance, product innovation, and overall business impact.
The latest recognition reflects more than two decades of Interswitch’s sustained investment in building reliable payment infrastructure that enables individuals, businesses, financial institutions, governments, and technology developers to participate confidently in an increasingly digital economy.
Commenting on the achievement, Founder and Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Interswitch Group, Mitchell Elegbe, described the recognition as a testament to the company’s enduring vision and unwavering commitment to innovation.
“Being recognised once again among the world’s leading fintech companies affirms the consistency of our vision and the resilience of the infrastructure we have built over the years. At Interswitch, we remain committed to developing payment and digital commerce solutions that address real-world challenges, create growth opportunities for businesses, and expand access to financial services across Africa. This recognition belongs to every member of our team, our customers, partners, and stakeholders whose trust and support continue to drive our success,” he said.
For over two decades, Interswitch has played a pivotal role in transforming Africa’s digital payments landscape by providing secure, reliable, and seamless payment infrastructure that powers financial transactions across multiple channels.
Its technology supports payment switching, digital banking, card services, merchant acquiring, government collections, digital commerce, and enterprise payment solutions. The company’s flagship platforms—including Verve, Quickteller, and its suite of payment infrastructure services—facilitate millions of secure transactions across Africa every day.
Speaking on the significance of the recognition, Executive Vice President, Group Marketing and Communications at Interswitch Group, Cherry Eromosele, said the honour reflects the company’s consistent impact and long-term commitment to advancing Africa’s digital economy.
“This recognition is particularly significant because it acknowledges sustained impact over time. At Interswitch, we have remained focused on building trusted infrastructure that individuals and businesses can depend on daily. As Africa’s digital economy continues to evolve, we will keep investing in technologies and strategic partnerships that make commerce simpler, more secure, and more inclusive,” she stated.
