Stanbic IBTC has commemorated three decades of delivering custody services in Nigeria with a Closing Gong Ceremony at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), marking a significant milestone in its contribution to investor confidence and the growth of the country’s capital market.
Welcoming the institution to the Exchange, the Chief Executive Officer of NGX, Jude Chiemeka, congratulated Stanbic IBTC on its 30-year journey and acknowledged its enduring role in strengthening Nigeria’s investment landscape.
Chiemeka highlighted the Exchange’s continued investment in technology, noting that digital transformation has enabled more than 2.6 million active retail investors to participate in the Nigerian capital market.

“Technology remains central to our strategy,” he said, stressing that a secure, transparent and efficient marketplace is critical to sustaining investor participation. He also commended Stanbic IBTC for its consistent contribution to enhancing investor confidence and promoting market integrity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Bank, Wole Adeniyi, expressed appreciation to NGX for its enduring partnership, describing the relationship between both institutions as instrumental in driving innovation, product development and thought leadership within the financial services industry.
“We are delighted to celebrate not only our journey but also the remarkable transformation of the Nigerian Exchange. As part of Standard Bank Group, we remain committed to raising industry standards and supporting the continued growth of Nigeria’s capital market. Nigeria is our home, and we remain committed to driving its growth,” Adeniyi stated.
Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Nominees, Babatunde Majiyagbe, reflected on the remarkable evolution of custody services over the past three decades, recalling the transition from safeguarding physical share certificates in secure vaults to today’s fully dematerialised electronic securities system.
According to him, while the market has undergone significant transformation, Stanbic IBTC’s commitment to service excellence has remained unwavering.
“What has continued to attract investors to the market is the confidence of dealing with a reputable institution like ours. We maintain high standards of corporate governance while leveraging technology to simplify investment processes in Nigeria,” he said.
Majiyagbe noted that the company’s contribution extends beyond attracting foreign portfolio investments, emphasising its longstanding role in supporting both domestic and international investors.
“For us, it is not merely about foreign portfolio investment but about the value we have consistently delivered over the past 30 years. Stanbic IBTC Nominees has remained the eyes and ears of both foreign and local investors, while also contributing to the development of market regulations, stability and sustainable growth,” he added.

Also speaking, Deputy Chief Executive of Stanbic IBTC Bank and Chairman of Stanbic IBTC Nominees, Bunmi Dayo-Olagunju, said the institution’s next phase of growth would be anchored on the trust it has built over the years.
“For three decades, we have delivered security, growth and confidence to our clients. That enduring trust has enabled us to retain existing investors while attracting new ones. As Nigeria’s economy continues to expand, we are well-positioned to build on that legacy by offering integrated custody, settlement, capital raising and advisory solutions on a single platform. We look forward to sustaining that trust for generations to come while serving both local and international investors,” she said.
The Closing Gong Ceremony reaffirmed Stanbic IBTC’s position as a leading player in Nigeria’s financial services industry and underscored its commitment to innovation, investor confidence and the sustainable development of the nation’s capital market.
