Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York to spearhead Nigeria’s team at the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). He is representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who opted not to attend this year’s global summit in person.

The Focus: This year’s high-level assembly centers on the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all”.
Nigeria’s Official Address: On behalf of President Tinubu, VP Shettima will deliver the country’s national statement on Wednesday, September 24, during the afternoon session. The speech will highlight Nigeria’s stance on global peace, economic security, and international cooperation.
Official Delegation: The Vice President is accompanied by a high-powered team, including Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, several federal ministers, and top government aides.

Climate Change: On September 24, Shettima will join a UN climate forum to share Nigeria’s updated climate action goals under the Paris Agreement.
Housing & Urbanization: He is set to join a high-level dialogue on affordable housing, hosted alongside the President of Kenya.
